![]() Image via Vicky vs on Flickr Dear Erin, Summer's here and I have a problem. When I leave work in the morning, my face is protected with tinted SPF and I look perfectly presentable. By the time I get to work, though, I'm a big grease ball. I don't want to just swab toner all over, thus undoing the tinted moisturizer with SPF, but I also think dabbing with powder sounds kind of gnarly. How can I get myself looking fresh again? Help! Shiny in the Summer Oh girl, I sooo have the same problem. The solution, after the jump! Bear with me here, as I know going out in public "naked" is scary, but would you consider attacking this commute sans makeup? Because when it's New York humid out (or if you live in the South), there is nothing that is gonna make that tinted SPF stay put. Yes, you need to wear sunscreen when you go outside and face the elements, but as one of my naturally-oily skinned dermatologist friends says, "There is such a thing as 'manual sunscreen'," and by that she means a hat. I know it sounds crazy, but you could walk in the office, book it to the bathroom, remove your adorable sun hat and apply your face tint within the comfy confines of an AC illuminated office building. (Personally, I used to perform this procedure at my desk, but I guess it depends on how casual your work environment can be.) Another idea: you know those stupid, miniature, hand-held fans (here's a sort of cute one)? I have actually seen very stylish women rock them on the subway. Just a little bit of air blowing on your overheated face can definitely help prevent slippage. Another product that used to aid me through such trying times was BeneFit Dr. Feelgood, a mattifying face balm that takes the place of cakey powder because it's translucent, seems to have a slight cooling effect (also smells awesome), and is such a pore-softening, line-filling, complexion improving machine that you might find you can just use it sans any drippy tinted moisturizer anyway. So there's that. Hope it helps chica. Eighth grade was fun/stay cool! (And I mean the latter yearbook quote, the cool part, that is...) xoxoxo Erin 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

I have a suggestion too, since this little problem was the bain of my life when I worked at an office...I found these little pads at Whole Foods called Urban Essentials and they're basically little wipes soaked in lavendar oil (or peppermint or lemon, they come in different scents) and probably alcohol, but they are very cooling. I used to get one ready in my purse when I'd have to wait on a super-hot subway platform and then when I started to overheat, just open it up and apply it to the back of my neck, behind ears, even forehead. I cooled right off and my make-up stayed put! Thought I'd share--good luck!
