![]() Photo via Splash One of the most well-respected derms of our time, Dr. Patricia Wexler (who boasts her own line of skincare products sold, somewhat randomly, through Victoria's Secret), has discovered what she and her clients seem to think is a miraculous (if not controversial) off-label use for Botox: breast lifts. The science makes sense, sort of. "Botox is about a yin and yang of muscle movement. If you weaken a muscle that's pulling something down, the muscle which is pulling up has nothing to oppose it," explains Wexler. "So if you weaken the pectoralis minor muscle, which is pulling the breast down, the rhomboid muscle in the back is going to have nothing to oppose it, so it's actually going to pull up your back and give you better posture and actually lift your breasts up."--WCBSTV But this hot new trend has some other derms up in arms (or pecs, in this case), claiming that this misuse of Botox is not only a gimmick, but it could cause irreparable harm by freezing important muscles needed to perform basic tasks such as, oh, rolling over. It also adds to the risk of hitting crucial blood vessels and nerves in the chest area. Plus, the more off-label uses that shoddier docs pick up, the more likelihood there is of malpractice suits, which increases the chances of Botox being yanked off the market altogether. Myself, I have other concerns. For example, will breast Botox make your boobs look like Lisa Rinna or worse, gulp: Carrot Top? Yikes. Bottom line? Buy a Wonderbra instead. |
