![]() Image via Revlon New foundations have recently come across my desk that are totally noteworthy for how fabulously they fake flawless skin, which is a weapon we all need to bust out now and then. Personally, I always feel like less is more, and if you have great skin, you should flaunt it (covered in sunscreen, natch). Still, like I said, there are days when more aggressive action comes in handy. First up is a huge launch for Revlon that you'll see coming out later this summer: They've developed a whole new line of products geared toward subtlety called Beyond Natural that I've been lucky enough to preview and subject to the full Product Fiend road test treatment. I've actually been loving the Concealer and Highlighter, a double-pan that contains cover-up on one side and a dewy highlighter on the other, which I think is just genius. But the Skin Matching Makeup, SPF 15, seems to be the line's real star. The formula is certainly lightweight and surprisingly for Revlon, stuffed with antioxidant goodness. But here's the literal rub: It goes on this sort of chalky white shade, which is totally freaky, but because it contains encapsulated color pigments (they're activated by pressure upon application), the shade seemingly magically transforms to match your skin tone exactly. Now, this makeup does not have a brain. It's not like it is seriously going to intuit your exact skin tone, and for this reason, the product comes in four shades. Still, it's one helluva fun trick, and I wouldn't fall for the hype except for the fact that I think it's a really nice, affordable foundation that does seem to melt into your skin. Tune in for Part Two, where I'll school you on Shu Uemura's new Skin Architect, the 31 Flavors of foundation that allows you to "sculpt" a better-looking mug... |
