Charla Krupp's new book, How Not to Look Old, is getting a lot of buzz on the circuit. In fact, the good ol' New York Times dissected some of the issues behind the tome's success, and it's no wonder she's got a hit on her hands. Ageism is here!

The book is rattling and humming because it's such a timely, sensitive subject. Is ageism the new racism? Joy Behar from The View thinks so, or at least, concedes that in this day and age, Marlon Brando would not be able to get a show on the Food Network, or something like that, when she admits to capitulating to the pressure to get Botox. Anyway, in these days when comments end up being more interesting than the blog and/or article at hand, check out what people have to say regarding looking younger being a professional asset:

From the Times:
Yes. I'm a veteran elementary teacher and good at what I do. I'm highly regarded by students and parents. I started noticing a few years ago, a difference in the way parents regard older teachers after I heard a comment in the hall after Parent Orientation Night at the start of the year: "It's so nice to have a young teacher!" I started feeling a certain unpleasantness when a parent made a crack at my Orientation Meeting about no chance of pregnancy leave, as a joke a few years later. Then I noticed some parents changing their manner with me once they learned the ages of my children. The parents, our clients, are sometimes not kind and sometimes even the younger teachers dismiss the older teachers, much as they would their parents. I know our own hiring committee has steered away from selecting the experienced teachers who apply and has at least once commented in the discussion, "we don't want any grandparents here." I don't have grandchildren to talk about. I look young for my age. Coloring my hair makes me look even younger. I didn't start highlighting my hair to hide my aging, but I decided after I started feeling the pressure from people around me, that I would give the mystery surrounding my age a little help, and not stop coloring my hair until my retirement. I'm also not that quick to mention the ages of my children.

Kinda heartbreaking, no? Remember Rush Limbaugh's recent Hillary bash? This is a serious issue right now (which is pretty sad), and has gone so far as to possibly affect this country's presidential candidacy. WTF is going on here!?!? Plus, as far as us Product Fienders go, it begs the question: How much is buying into anti-aging product promises healthy, and how much is buying into what is being crammed down our throats from a discriminatory cultural movement? Thoughts people?!
